Logistics Operations Americas is part of GTO and has approximately 1,000 employees in more than 20 locations within the region. Our job is to design, handle and optimize the supply chain for all Volvo Group brands. The scope for Logistics Services includes making sure material is delivered to the production facilities, packaging is available, vehicles are distributed to the dealers, and that management of material, warehouses and distribution ensures the availability of parts everywhere in the world. We have exciting opportunities for the right individuals at our 1,000,000 SF central Distribution Center in Byhalia, MS. The new Byhalia DC is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Memphis, TN.
Purpose of the Position
The Logistic and Methods Engineering internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to promote the graduate’s career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The internship experience enables students to participate in professional activities for the Volvo Byhalia, Columbus facility by working on important and innovative projects.
The internship role will start in the Fall of 2018 as a part-time position with a target of 20 hours per week. The specific work days and hours will be flexible, but agreed upon with the hiring manager.
Weekly writing assignments; brief written summaries of the learning experiences and project updates will be required
Project Presentations: Formal project presentations will be required to be presented to peers, management, and senior leaders within the organization
Mentor Feedback: Throughout the entire summer experience, the mentor will provide verbal and written feedback on performance
Formal Written Performance Review: At the end of the internship, each intern will be given a formal written evaluation based on their work performance
Develop process flow
Support on development reports for Inbound and Outbound departments
Trainer IWs (SPOPs, Flows)
Problem solve methodology (5 Why’s, PDCA, Brainstorm)
Implement projects focus on SQDCEP
Create time plan for projects in Operational Support Department)
Support on implementation in VPS (OPS)
Update the boards VPS
Support to develop KPIs for OPS (Engineers)
Develop put away algorithms and monitor put away process
Re-slotting beams based on requirements, creating location files, and label files
Perform capacity planning as required
Develop AutoCAD layout and implement the layouts on floor
Space creation projects
Ability to learn and operate warehouse management systems (WMS)
Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants should be interested in a professional career as a Logistic Engineer, Industrial Engineer at a warehouse or manufacturing facility
Applicants must be pursing and enrolled in an Engineering degree at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship
Applicants should also have a working knowledge of MS Excel, Computer Aided Drafting programs, and methods analysis, AutoCAD software
