FUNCTION: Provides individualized care for patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Demonstrates initiative, insight, and judgment in making decisions. Works within the guidelines and scope of practice with the TN/MS Nurse Practice Acts for LPNs.
Assists with check-in of patients when scheduled and/or when needed gathers data and follows policies and procedures for admission for ASC patients.
Works and interacts with co-workers to accomplish overall ASC goals in areas as needed.
Gathers assessment data (i.e. vital signs, LOC, pain level assessment) pre and post procedure.
Accurately documents all vitals signs observations, teaching and medications given in a professional manner and format.
Provides pre/post procedure teaching to the patient or caregiver as indicates
Reports noted deviations of the patient to the Recovery Room Supervisor or Endoscopy Center Manager..
Administers topical, oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous and sublingual medications as prescribed. The LPN will NOT administer any IV medications.
Assures the proper route, correct patient, by armband identification. Assures correct medication and dosage - utilizing knowledge of commonly used drugs. Knowledge of the actions, effects and normal dosages of medications.
Assist with Endotherapy injections in the procedure rooms as necessary.
Assures the integrity of the controlled substance system and appropriately uses as ASC policy dictates.
Maintains competence in point of care testing - Blood Glucose Checks, Pregnancy Tests, Clo Tests. Calibrates blood glucose device. Demonstrates skill of equipment use, specimen collection, and reading the monitor. Can identify and properly report abnormal readings to the supervisor and physician.
Responds quickly and appropriately to emergency situations and performs designated functions as assigned.
Practices infection control and standard precautions as trained or instructed.
Demonstrates understanding of proper steps to transporting patient to hospital in an emergency situation.
Assure and adheres to the overall safety of the patient, visitor and employees.
Participates in on-going performance improvement plans.
Maintains par levels of supplies in work area. Checks for expiration dates monthly.
Knowledgeable in the use and care of colostomies.
Initiates physician orders and treatments in an organized, timely manner.
Prepares logs and assures processing of specimens for testing.
Demonstrates competence in the operation of patient monitoring and testing equipment. BP machines, EKG, IV Infusion systems.
Successfully completes all G.I. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center training requirements (i.e. OSHA, HIPPA, Safety Compliance).
Responsible for compliance with all regulatory guidelines and/or requirements. These include but are not limited to: AAAHC standards, Medicare and state specific regulations, OSHA, HIPPA, Federal Fraud and Abuse Laws.
Conducts all duties in a manner that conforms to the Mission, Vision and policies of GI Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center, LLC
Performs other duties as required.
JOB EXPOSURE DETERMINATION: Involves occupational exposure to blood, tissue and bodily fluids.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Does not supervise any employee. Receives supervision from Recovery Room Supervisor. Works cooperatively with Endoscopy Center co-workers and physicians. Presents a friendly, courteous and helpful manner in all interactions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: LPN with active licensure for the state of TN and MS. Must maintain current licensure. Current BLS. ACLS within 6 months of hire. Membership in the state and/or national SGNA recommended. Successfully pass color blind screen.
