Position Overview

Supervises and coordinates payroll team responsible for processing the company's payroll and compiling payroll data to maintain accurate payroll records. Ensures team support of employees and managers on all aspects of payroll processes.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and leads a payroll team in the preparation and execution of payroll, including calculating, balancing and reconciling payroll calculations, and resolving calculation errors. Supervises the reconciliation of payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions.2. Oversees the calculations and processing of federal and state taxes and social security withholdings and other deductions, insurance, benefits, pension/retirement, 401(k) contributions and company match.3. Audits, verifies and reconciles payroll, employee benefits and related data for exempt and non-exempt payroll cycles. Audits payroll information for accuracy. Monitors system-generated and ad-hoc reports alerting to problems or errors.4. Creates and analyzes payroll data reports as necessary. Processes and analyzes payroll and employee expenses, creates on-going month-end, quarterly and year-end reports.5. Delegates and provides coaching and development to payroll staff. Manages and reviews performance. Facilitates and contributes to staffing and employment processes for the payroll team.6. Maintains knowledge of rules and laws which govern the payroll administration practices. Contributes to the development, documentation and communication of payroll policies and procedures. Interprets, applies and enforces payroll policies and procedures. 7. Ensures high level customer service and problem resolution for tier 1 issues by the payroll team. Develops, coaches and consults with payroll team to support managers and employees regarding payroll processes and policies. Fields and resolves escalated issues from payroll team and facilitates quick resolution.8. Ensures that payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies. Reviews payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick, and other time off. Ensure that adjustments are accurate and reconciled before payroll is processed.9. Reviews and facilitates prepared responses to notices from government agencies regarding employee tax filings.10. Participates in testing and deployment of change and maintenance activities for payroll systems and processes as needed. Leads and facilitates problem solving and special projects within the payroll team.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred• 5 years of payroll administration and processing experience required• Experience with Workday, ADP or related human resource and/or payroll systems strongly preferred• Experience with federal, state and local payroll taxes and reconciliation experience strongly preferred• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) credentials preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures as well as corresponding local, state and federal regulations• Supervisory skills including coaching, development and performance management• Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)• Attention to detail and accuracy with quantitative and qualitative data• Written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal and external entities and present information; public-speaking skills• Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality• Organizational and time management skills, including process orientation and the ability to meet deadlines• Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
